I put a new vehicle speed sensor in my truck and when I go to put in gear my back wheels don't spin and it makes a whining sound. I put the old one back in and the wheels spin freely and the whining quits

Well an 89 chevy transmission doesn't use the speed sensor for the transmission. All it does is work the speedometer and cruise control. It doesn't really make any sense
