It could be a fuel filter problem. It is usally a good idea to change the filter when you change the pump. Having a clogged filter will make your engine run bad, or not at all, and can cause the new pump to work itself into an early grave.

p/t ank cross over pipe inside tank(alot of cars nowdayshave p/tankin middle of vehical which the bottom of tank is not flat. they need a balance pipe to keep fuel level and supply to swiwrl pot sugest to reinspect pump fittings) paulie racv australia.

Yeah, it's definitely something to do with the fuel lines. Unless it's the injectors clogging. Not likely. Sounds like something in the fuel delivery system, maybe on the block. Doubtful though. The other thing could be your lines or fuel rail (if it has one. not really familiar with american cars). If the lines are clogged then fumes might be getting through but no actual fuel itself. Best vet, take it to a trusted mechanic, find out the problem, and (if you know how) fix it yourslef.
