coolant leak

Asked by Nickson Dec 27, 2012 at 04:01 PM about the 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Drove 15 miles to work when I parked most of the coolant was on the ground and my car overheated. The coolant was under the lower radiator hose. Now looking for the leak the car retains fluid and keeps a steady temp and no signs of leak.

Did you have good heat? and where is the overflow tank located? Your thermastat maybe starting to stick and you are loseing fluid out of the over flow

Check the cap on the coolant reservoir. If it's bad, the coolant will boil at a lower temperature and leak out the overflow tube. While you have the hood open, pull the dipstick to see if coolant is in the oil (head gasket or lower manifold leak). If you have a bleed valve on your engine, remove the air (if any).
