will a 05 pontiac 2.2 ecotech engine work in a 05 chevy colbalt?

Asked by rlarue2 May 12, 2012 at 12:13 PM about the 2005 Pontiac Sunfire

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

the engine is already out of the sunfire, i was told it is a 04 or 05 model, with 50 thousand miles. looks to me the only difference is the sunfire motor has power steering and the colbalt has rack and pinion.

Both cars have power steering and they r both rack and pinion. Do you have both vehicles where you can check the VIN numbers? If so check #8 if they r the same number or letter (pretty sure its a number) then everything Is good. just use the P/ S hoses from the cobalt, they should be identical for both cars but just to be safe. If you don't have the Pontiac VIN then lots of digging for block stampings will be required
