I knew a girl like that once.....Check the coolant level and check if the hoses running to the heater (under the hood) are getting warm when the engine is up to operating temperature. You could have air in the system, low coolant level, plugged heater core, inoperative water valve (if equipped) or trouble with the blend door or control head inside the vehicle.
