leaking rear view mirror

Asked by hunt11 Dec 31, 2009 at 10:54 AM about the 2001 Audi A6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My rear view mirror started to have circular bubbles in it and they would move around.  Then, a black greasy substance
started leaking from it.  Has any one had this issue?

Exactly the same thing just started yesterday for me. My guess is that we have to replace the mirror. There are $80 replacements parts available.

I had the same problem with my Audi A6. I bought a $14.95 LCD (298857 LCD SELF DIMMING MIRROR) mirror from JC Whitney. It clips onto the existing mirror and uses power from the lighter or can attached to the map light.

Same thing here....i never replaced the mirror, i just let it leak out as much as it wanted and then i was left with a big oval in the center of the mirror (longitudinal oval) i don't really care and it doesn't really bother at night by it not dimming anymore....
