2001 Outback with occasional loud metallic bang under rear

This sounds like something striking the car. Always the same sound, doesn't matter
speed- not in turning- Have heard maybe 8-10 times over month .  Dealer examined
could not find anything wrong, drove but did'nt hear.  
Want to take a long trip with car soon.

Any ideas?
