Just moved to Springfield Virginia and need a good reliable and honest mechanic to
work on my 2000 Subaru outback- any suggestions? My son is coming back from boot
camp and needs car for school.  Repairs/Maintenance needed:
- timing belt and water pump ( no performance issue, just at 114k miles)
- fluid leak on axle(?) was told by friend/mechanic that  it's just a gasket? Virginia tire
said it needed a transaxle.  
- it could probably use new shocks- rides like a skateboard :)

Did you ever find an excellent independent mechanic? If I were you, I would call Subaru of America 800-782-2783 and see if they can refer you to someone.
