Replacing heads gasket

Asked by John Jun 19, 2017 at 01:45 PM about the 1998 Subaru Forester

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Picked up the 3rd 1998 Subaru Forester today. The
vehicle has 160k miles with clean interior and
exterior for around $1,200. Of course they noted
that the car has a heating problem (2.5l arguably
one of the worst for burning head gaskets) but there
is no cracks or major warps in the heads so I'm
turning to find the best aftermarket gasket to
prevent the problem for as long as I can. I've heard
Fel Pro is the way to go, but I'd love some input.
Thanks, John

Multi-layer gaskets are the way to go. Some forums seem to agree that 5 Star gaskets are good.
