It may be a bearing in the alternator, or the alternator itself making the noise. If it persists when stopped, open the hood with the car running and see if you can isolate where the whining noise is coming from. I had it once until I removed my daughter from the back seat. Also the water pump may be the reason or any bearing on the belt system. If you hear is and the car is in park, try speeding the engine up and see if that increases the noise. If not, is it from the transmission?
