I bought a 1992 Chevy 4x4 truck and when it's running and I push the brakes the engine dies there was a little black box wired in for tow brakes at some point any info would be great

Could it be a shorted out wire or something to do with the wiring on the electronic brake controller that was installed

I just don't understand isn't that what the fuse is for incase there is a short and also the previous owner said it started happening right after the electronic brake controller was put in could the fuse be popped but it still have a connection through the fuse

Nope if the fuse is blown, no power. But if you suspect the brake controller, you are going to have to trace all the wiring associated with it. From the dash all the way to the plug in the rear.
