I have a 1965 Impala with the original generator. Can I replace it with an alternator and if so what type or model of alternator. Also will the wiring match up ?

Yes, there are "one wire kits" offered thru www.Summitracing.com or www.JEGS.com which will allow you to switch it over to an 60, 80 or (if your running hydraulics for low riding) 120 AMP alternator.

Thanks. Are you able to get a suitable alternator through one of the regular automotive supply stores instead of having to order one in ?

My generator has 3 wires going into it, so how does the one wire work ?

Some equipment runs off the alternator so check if they need to be wired in. Also make sure you are running a 12 volt and not a 6 volt. My memory is too old to remember when they changed over. Don't throw away the original generator, you may get a great price for it some day.
