Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My 1979 F150 has always started and ran just fine
until this morning. It started just fine ran for about
15-20 minutes, as im walking to get in it and drive
to work it spits and sputters and dies. It almost
restarted, but then only cranked and turned over.
What's wrong, fuel pump, fuel filter.....has plenty of
fuel

I'm not much of a mechanic, what are the rails and how do you do that. It has a 400 V8, 2bbl carb
sorry I though you had fuel injection, Replace the filter sound like the float may be stuck. You can take off the fuel line to the carb and spray some air in that hole, make sure its low pressure air like about 5 pounds and see if that helps.

That didn't help, but I noticed the in line filter was dry, it is in the line that goes from the pump to the carb. Is it supposed to be dry, and the carb was not wet. Bad fuel pump?

Yes I would say you have a bad pump, if you have fuel coming into the pump and nothing out the other side then yes it's a bad pump...
Do you have dual gas tanks? You may have a problem with the fuel tank selector.
