Squeal in Pully

Asked by Karen Jan 27, 2019 at 11:49 PM about the 1985 Ford F-350

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I hear a squeal in the motor when the engine is
around 55mph. The air conditioner is froze up so I
assume they bypassed it when they replaced belts.
They said all the belts are tight. Which pully is
squealing? Or is there a way to test them to see
which one squeals.

Karen, there is not a way to bypass the A/C compressor by replacing the drive belt. So you have to be sure to not engage that seized up (stuck) compressor or your belt will burn up and break. That means do not select the heater functions like "Defrost" or "A/C"....those engage that stuck compressor. Have a mechanic help you.
