how can I tell which v6 is in my 1983 ford ranger

RockAuto.com shows four possible engines. One 4 cyl diesel, two 4 cyl gas and one V6 gas

Since the only V6 engine that came in the car (the 2.8L 171cid V6 OHV)- maybe looking at a number on the VIN isn't necessary.
