Yes he is talking about a wheel bearing ,,,, but does the car make alot of noise while driving too??? if not you may just need a wheel bearing re-pack of grease and tightening to specs and on the way you go....
Yes you can be correct about the upper and lower ball joint ,,, but it did not state that the auto technician had a jack under the cars control arm which useally needs to be done to take the pressure off from the coil spring in order to move the suspension 's play to diagnose the free play , This question states it was lifted up on the Car lift so that means wheels are free spinning and suspension is fully extended and bottomed out with its full pressure on . so most likely it is the wheel bearing , But Awesome Answer there your on the right track GOOD JOB.
Can still be found if really badly worn without jack... try side to side!
im glad you are partisipating in helping our fellow cargus people but i have to diagree on side to side movement only because you have to take the pressure off the upper control ,, cause if it is on a rack(lift) it is fully extended and the upper control arm at this point is now on (touching,Laying) the frame and the pressure of the spring is with so much of thousand of pressure pushing the lower control arm down that the two ball joints are actually being pushed or pressed apart from each other so depending on the spring pressure it will not be as notisable as you may think, but thats just my opinion , iv been doing this work for 28yrs now and i own my own business (Auto Repair Shop) www.Kars-tempeautorepair.com
