what type of oil does a 2000 dodge ram 2500 pickup need

Terri, your question has been up for over an hour but I assure you it's not being ignored, there is such an intense debate among ourselves here and in other forums that nobody wants to do the debate ...again. So here is my opinion. Full synthetic like Mobil1 (what I use in my car) or Castrol Edge...AMSOIL is a pyramid, Ponzi selling system...their products are mediocre at best. You can put Mobil1 in your Dodge Ram and not have to think about an oil change for 10,000 miles
Okay- intense debates- yikes- I'm rushing in where angels fear to tread- but here's my opinion- whatever kind of oil, (just get some good Castrol, 10-30 in winter, 15-40 in summer); but change it more often: 5K miles at least, 3K miles for stop-n-go city, dusty roads, hot climate- 10K? I don't know guys; even if it is synthetic, how does your oil NOT degrade over time and fill up with dirt and combustion byproducts?! That is the question- how does it not get dirty after THAT many miles?
It gets dirty, sure, but a quality filter is the key, I should have said that. All filters are not the same. And if you drive on dirt roads, dusty conditions, then 5000 miles. And it does eventually degrade, sure, and was first developed by the US Air Force for use in piston engine powered airplanes.
Well really, we cant answer his question. He didnt give us enough information about the engine. Is it diesel or gas? That would cut down the debate a little bit. But I usually use Castrol or Mobil One in my engines.
