transmission

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

automatic transmsiion 2005 x type 2.8
shift from park to drive or reverse i eel the transmisson engage but al i get is a whining noise\
with no movementof the car
When i return it to park a get a grinding noise
Could it be the Fly wheel or maybe something more serious

I get the same in my 2005, auto in first gear doesnt work, or drive, have to go to sport mode to be able to drive it. Get the same gear grinding. Am I stripping gears?
