The Saab keys for that year are electronic. Refer to this pdf. It may answer your question: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/faq/keyfaq.pdf

The car battery went down.. so you thing I need to reprogramm the car key?
No reprogramming is not necessary. The car's security system will recognize the key. The key is "chipped" and does not require any power. I would get a good charge on the car battery. There may be issues with your security system not reading the key? Do you have a spare key you could try? Also you could try disconnecting the battery for 15-20 minutes. The cars electronic system may need a reboot.. Just guessing.
But definitely charge the battery and see if that fixes your issue. I would start there. If it still doesn't work, then proceed with further trouble shooting.
