9 3 turbo how to tell if turbo has gone

driving along then noticed a lot off smoke comining from exhaust it has stop now any ideals

What type of load was on the engine when this happened? Some things to check....catalytic converter, turbo bearings, check the coolant level, check oil level. The only thing on a turbo that can go bad really are the bearings. This you can hear as soon as it spools up.

I've had a turbo go on me as well and the invcredible amounts of smoke (usually white-ish/blue-ish in color) is usually the tell tale sign that your turbo is shot. I can't imagine it stopping though,
