Do all auto stores know how to check codes for a Mercedes. or are Mercedes code different

Any garage worth their salt should have a code reader these days since all modern cars are basically computers with wheels. That said, don't be out off by a garage that doesn't have one, its spooky but guys who've been in the trade forever just seem to know! If a guy with white hair pulls out a welding rod and puts it on top of your engine then puts it to his ear, you know he's old school haha...
