kickdown lever

Asked by Marcus Jun 07, 2018 at 08:52 AM about the 1968 Dodge Charger

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Travel from carb to WOT is much more than the kickdown lever will alow. Isn't
the Kickdown lever supposed to be in contact with the pump at all times. I can
adjust it to where WOT pushes the kickdown lever all the way back but upon
release there is way more than an inch on the slide connected to the carb.
Raising the lever well above the pump if i use a return spring

from what I know the kick down dictates shift points , and WOT is wide open throttle , ? ? the cable should not be hard linked , there should be springs either way as a "limiter " G.M. went with a vacuum signal from the intake manifold but many mopar had the cable/linkage , unhooked I think the shifts would occur one right after the other really soon , as throttle is pressed shifts are delayed , WOT gets you "passing gear "
