On my 64 bug I have to much play in my front tire p/s I move it from side to side and I feel it when I'm driving

With a VW of that age it could be a worn steering box or rack, worn universal joints in the steering column, worn ball joints and worn tie rod ends.

tenspeed covered what could be wrong, but it will only get worse and you could lose control of your car endangring yourself and others around you.....
