can i put a 1641cc or higher engine into a 1967 bug? I am complete redoing the car that my pa left me
when he died and im wondering if i can only put the 1600cc single port carb turnkey engine in or if i can
put a different engine in i would like to stay close to orginal but i really dont plan on selling that car
either. i know that if i change the engine i might also have to change other parts but as i mentioned i am
completely rebuilding the car.

you can get a 1600 twin port engine thay go better but if you check with a engine builder thay can mod the engine a little and get more power out of it

So does that mean that i can only buy the single port single carburetor and where would i look for a engine builder if you have any ideas?

You can bolt-in,a 2180 cc dual port engine,with dual webers,if that"s what you want..For normal drivability, I"d suggest nothing larger than a 1776 cc big-bore rebuild-dual port,of course..Check out some VW pages,online,for starters,to get to know your car...Have fun!! I"ve owned tons of them things,when I was younger,living in California!!Great little cars!-Just remember-That bug,is a classic,as it is the first year,for the 12 Volt system,and the last year,of the WIDE-5 wheel bolt pattern..
Im glad your restoring a -67, just like i do! Hope you get that motor started, ive got a 1641cc with dual 36 webers and a pretty angry camshaft! Good luck with the project!
