We are looking at a 1989 Cabriolet to tow behind our camper. Does anyone know if it can be towed 4 wheels down AND how you would attrach a towbar to it?

If the vehicle has a manual transmission and you don't care about racking up miles on the odometer while towing, then sure...you can get a bumper mounted towbar and pull it with 4 wheels down. However, if it's an automatic transmission, you'll need at least a car dolly for the the drive wheels. The internal pump of the transmission ...which circulates the hydraulic fluid (which is also a lubricant) is driven by the engine which will not be on during the towing. You kinda want lubricant flowing while the transmission innards are rotating...even if it's just the output section of it. That being said, I've always felt it better to use a full car trailer...get all 4 wheels off the ground while towing...save wear and tear, tires and eliminates the need for a bumper towbar. You can usually find good used ones for around $1000. Check www.craigslist.org for deals in your local area.
