Starter removal

From the H3 forum is a simple write up below: As for tools, here is a list. Upholstery clip remover (wheel well), Ratchet strap (for the coolant line), 8mm socket (solenoid terminal), 10mm socket (dipstick tube), 13mm socket (positive terminal), 16mm socket (starter bolts), 3/8 drive 6" extension, 1/4" drive handle. Disconnect the battery terminals. Remove the front drivers side wheel. Remove the fender well. Loosen the trans line clips (4). Remove 10mm dipstick tube but do not remove the tube rather slide it to the rear to make more clearance. Anchor one side of the ratchet strap to a sturdy point in the engine compartment (not the hood) and attach the other hook to the coolant line as forward as possible and ratchet the line out of the way (use caution not to flex too much). loosen the electrical connectors to the engine and move out of the way. Remove the electrical terminals to the starter, Remove the starter bolt and nut. Now wiggle the starter loose and out through the bottom or wheel well. Install the new starter in reverse order. Complete!! The entire change out took about 2.5 hours (taking my time). Ohh yeah to install the upper starter nut I used a little bit of grease to hold the nut while I blindly threaded it onto the stud. Use caution not to cross thread.

Now that was a great explanation. I just replaced a starter in a 2001 honda accord and it was a pain in the but screwing in that stubborn bolt. I didn't have any grease on hand and not running to the store did cause me to become a half twist with a quarter back bend as if i were playing pool while i performed operation balancing on a tightrope for the first time again magician. :) sorry i was having flash backs.
