Roaring sound

Asked by Joseph Jul 26, 2014 at 10:42 AM about the 2005 Audi A4

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi,

I have a Audi a4 quattro 2005.5 and it started making roaring sounds last night after I
stopped at a stop sign. It roars when the gas pedal is pushed in park and in drive. I
think it's the muffler that needs replacement but I couldn't locate where the sound
originated.

If it came from the front, what would it be? It wouldn't be a failed wheel bearing cause
the car also roars while in park.

And if it came from the back, what would it be?

I don't know much about cars so thank you for your help!

Joe

a good question here is if the car starts to sound more like a muscle car its likely a exhaust leak and its most commonly in the flex pipes ahead of the catalytic converters. anything else such as loud squealing noises would be related to bearings seizing on the serpentine belt which runs your alternator, cooling system , excreta. for this i would check all your pulleys especially the belt tensor while the belt is off turn each singly ones that are hard to turn or are not solid from shaking would be a culprit.
