New Head lights went bad after two months

Asked by LaurenMc Jan 03, 2017 at 04:36 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 cavalier and we just bought new
headlights for both sides. We installed the new light
fixtures and new bulbs. After about a month with
the new fixtures the drivers side light went out. Then
today, a month later, the passenger light went out.
Now both lights are out and the head lights are only
two months old. The running lights still work. But
the headlights and bright lights do not.

See if you can get them warrantied from where you got them. When installing the bulbs you are not to touch the bulb itself. Need to use a cloth or something. The oil from your hands heats the bulbs up and they burn out.

Also put some dielectric grease in socket before install it will keep moisture and corrosion from affecting the bulb. May need to check wiring and relay and see if fuse is too large allowing more power to lights then should be in-case someone had issues before with a short blowing the fuse and put a higher rated one in its place and now causing the bulbs to short.
