trunk release bmw 318i saloon

is there something that may have got stuck between the trunk lid and rubber seal? can you hear the motor when u press the button? if so try leaning on the top of the trunk then press the button.

not sure on the shape u own but late cars im sure have a boot release inside so eather drop the rear seats down if its a coupe or drop the rear arm rest and go through the ske hole between the seats and have a look

The lid is damage and can no longer fit
