Ive been working on fixing my 93 gas cabriolet. Service station says needs new computer....can I buy used, and do they have to be programmed, or is it programmable by the owner?

Yes you can buy used but whether its' new or used it will need to be programmed to your Cab by a VW dealer or a very good European mechanic who has the right computers to do that. Personally I would get a second opinion from a good REPUTABLE European mechanic who specializes in VW
