Started truck n gas gauge went from full to empty and the service light came on. Turned off engine n it still says empty

What year is your Frontier ? Later model Frontiers have an issue with the fuel level sending unit in the fuel tank ( my 2005 has this issue now ). Whether it IS a newer model or not, a faulty fuel level sender will cause this issue and I would bet that is what it is.
