Why is battery light comes on (dashboard) after a few mile of driving?

Asked by artpinoy Feb 12, 2012 at 11:09 AM about the Jaguar X-TYPE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just change the battery (65,000 miles). Three weeks later battery ind. light begins to
show after a few miles. Alternator put out 14.8 volts and battery always pass the
load test and car is operating normal and no signs of power or voltage loss. What
should I do or check to fix this light issue?

The only thing that could be at fault are the alternator diodes and could have an intermittent fault that lasts lond enough the register in the ECU but not ne permanent to cause a drop in voltage. Get the diodes pack replaced, think it comes with the brushes and this should cure the problem.

I was having this same issue, jaguar Xtype is very sensitive and will only accept the alternator made by jaguar. The alternator will still put out the correct voltage but will be rejected this will not cause a problem but that annoying batter ind. light will be on unless you have the jaguar alternator
