If the engine just stops but all the electrical is fine ( lights, radio, turn signals, flashers ) then there's a good chance your timing belt has simply snapped. The belts are only good for 60,000 miles or so. A dealer can replace it fairly quickly although not cheaply. The engine will run as before if not better.
