Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My key fob is damaged, Battery + tab is broken. Do I need a battery in the Fob to start the car?? Do I need the key blade in the Fob to start the car? It would give me this problem before and I would replace the battery in the fob and the car would start. But people are telling me the battery just works the door locks and is not needed for the ignition key. Dealer needs a working key to program a new one. If I had a working key I wouldent need a new one. I may have another problem?? Thanks
