Has anyone experienced their rear windshields shattering while the car is parked (see details)?

Question type: General

2006 Honda Accord owned and driven by its original owner (in other words, it wasn't bought used.) Last driven on a Saturday evening. Parked in an extremely well-ventilated private basement garage.

By Tuesday morning, the rear windshield is totally shattered, still in place (it hasn't fallen into the car or to the pavement), with no visible signs of trauma caused by an external object, i.e. a pebble, or a baseball bat, etc.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

No, Js08016, no large and fast temperature change. Actually, the dealer's service rep did say that a temperature fluctuation could have caused pressure to build up in the car leading to pressure on the glass and the glass eventually cracking. However, the car had been out of the sun for a couple of days and temps in the area had been mild and nice when the glass cracked. So it's quite hard to see how temperature had anything to do with it.

I have a 2006 Honda Accord, the Rear window shattered completely but remained intact on the frame, no holes or evidence of glass being hit by anything. It was parked as usual it was a hot day and appears to have happened between 12:30 and 3:00. I just find it so odd that it is completely shattered but no glass on the floor or back seats. ???

I know this is an old post but I have an 2007 Honda Accord and I was sitting in my driveway on the phone and heard a really loud noise like a brick had hit my back windshield window. So I get out of the car and rear windshield is shattered and then it caved in. There was no evidence of anything hitting or dropping on the windshield to cause it to do this. Has anyone else has a similar issue?

Yes. I have had my 07 Accord rear window break twice this year already.

Yes, my husband got into our brand new 2019 Honda CRV. When he shut the driver side door, the back window spontaneously imploded. Honda will not take responsibility for it as a defect...go figure. It seems others are having the same problem!
