3 year old engine starter was replaced before it was parked

A battery...or charge up the old one if it is newer than five years old...physically grab the crank and see if it will turn after a squirt of some lubricant (tri-flo w teflon) is my personal favorite...but take the four plugs out one at a time...with a squirt of oil and let 'er rip~ if it doesn't "rip" right away a little "starting spray" for a couple of revs might be just the thing to get you off and running...of course you will be listening to the fuel pump whirring when you engage the "on" position, and immediately top 'er off with the best stuff they got~...if it isn't locked up some will say it is paramount to drain the old gas, but it burns just the same and rust...etc. will be captured by your filter...this system does NOT leak to the ambient air so I'm not worried about the explosive fuel losing much of it's volatility~ some may argue but the filter will catch any intruders....even spiders~

...0kay why was it parked...someone ran the engine without coolant and cooked the motor...there has to be a reason....look at the underside of the hood for a prior overheat...check the dipstick for presence of coolant and the radiator for "froth"...inspect the head to see any puffs or evidence of leakage either oil or coolant~

I think Roy has pretty well covered it all I'm just gonna say Ditto

I ran a '61 Cadillac (just 'cause it was cool) that had been overheated and the connecting rods melted a bit...and sounded like a can of marbles...but ran...with a stiff accelerator pedal that would make you over-accelerate...point is you can run 'em after catastrophic failure yet...if it still goes round and round, and oil still gets to the things that need oilin' you can still run them after catastrophic failure...is the point~

was the new starter purchased because it was in fact "locked up" and 2 years later is still "locked up"...an guessing by your lack of interaction that this must be the case~

there are tremendous values with used/rebuilt motors...you may want to think about it if you've had the bad luck and just don't want to talk about it~
