I replaced the battery and the truck started but it did not start the next day

truck is 1991 dodge d150 with a 318 engine. I bought a battery but when I got it home it
was physically about 3 " smaller than the interstate that was in it. Could the alternator be
bad?

If you have a Walmart Auto Care Center, Autozone, O'Reily's Auto, or any other parts place nearby they can test your alternator for you most likely. Other then that, "some people don't recommend this method but it has worked for me." Just remove one of the battery cables while the truck is running and see if it dies. Other then that make sure every thing is corrosion free, and hooked up properly.
