Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 Chevrolet cavalier 2.2
base with a 5-speed car went into
theft mode. I replaced the ignition
did the 10-minute interval for 30 and
I left the ignition on for 30 minute.
Shut ignition off put ignition on start
the car runs for 2 seconds dies the
theft light flashes approximately six
times and then stay steady go back
do the same things again still
nothing I replace the instrument
cluster with a 97 which will
interchange and still the same thing .
I was told that I may have to have a
scan tool put on it to go in and erase
all the codes any suggestions don't
have a lot of money to spend on this
car

There is no reset procedure for this. Or relearn procedure, etc. To program additional keys yourself you need one working key, which you no longer have because you changed the ignition lock cylinder. At this point you need to be towed to your local Chevrolet Dealer to program the new keys to the vehicle. Hope that helps! Jim
