2004 ford mustang 40th anniversary manual transmission

My son has a 2004 mustang 40th anniversary with a
manual transmission im guessing that is standard
transmission,he lost control hit a curb broke both
passenger side rims,he had those replaced his car drives
good now but when he shifts to 2nd or 3rd the shifter will
not lock in those gears he has to hold it in place.

it sounds like the synchros inside the transmission we're damaged. Have a transmission mechanic look it over. Maybe even the trans mounts might be broken or something on the unibody is bent.

We went out and looked at it today and the shifter is on neutural but it is against the console so it is hard to shift it to 2nd 4th and reverse because its hitting the console so you have to hold those in place with your hand or the console pushes them back.why would the shifter have moved next to the console.

Your son damaged the car when he hit the curb. The engine and transmission may have shifted. You need to have a mechanic evaluate the car, then take his keys away.
