Why is my 2018 ford edge stuck in limp mode and over heating at start?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey guys!

We have a 2018 ford edge that sat for some time.

When we replaced the battery, it starts with no
problem, but as soon as you start the car, it
immediately would say car is over heating and
seems to be stuck in limp mode. It will not go
above 35mph

We were able to get it to a mechanic, but he said
he wasn't able to help because it needed to have to
computer reset?

Has anyone had this happen and can anyone point
me in the right direction as to why it is doing this or
how to reset the computer?

Then whoever it was didn’t know much, probably didn’t have the right tools. Best thing to do is to get it to a good shop in your area, they check it over and let you know what it is and how much to fix it. Late model vehicles do not like sitting around, this sounds like a bad sensor or possibly even rodent damage to the wiring.

I'm assuming the battery was completely dead from sitting. So the computers probably need to be flashed (reprogrammed). The other possibility is mice, squirrels, or some other rodents moved in and chewed up some of the wiring. They love to do that! The immediate overheating message and limp mode are most likely from a disconnect coolant temperature sensor. Pointing to damaged wiring. When the computer loses the signal from the coolant temperature sensor it assumes the engine is overheating and takes steps to prevent serious engine damage. The air conditioning probably isn't working either. Best to let your local Ford Dealer have a look at it. Jim
