Should be a standard 5.7 liter engine "350 ci" Looks like any GM truck/van or SUV from 1996 to 1999 (2000 - escalade or 2003 - vans) with a 5.7 will have a motor for you.Half way through '99 they started switching to the new gen 3 motors which will not work. Will you or a friend change it or will you get a shop to do it. Going used would be the cheapest option. There should be quite a few used engines either at the wreckers or in the local parts listings as the tranmissions are weak points and are starting to cost more money, more and more of these years of trucks are being scrapped. I try to only by engines that I can hear running before I buy them. Or you could look into a rebuild or buying a long or short block. Whats wrong with your motor

My mechanic is going to do it. Something about it not holding pressure. So I had two options. Either take out and replace two things which would cost me like that $700 or just replace the motor. Or sell it. But I will be losing too much money if I do that.I can't get in touch with any wreck shops in my area. I'm in Philadelphia, 19134. My mechanic found one for $750 but I don't know if I wanna spend the money. I bought this damn truck from this small dealer in May and it's been sitting at my mechanics for 2 mths. In doesn't fall under lemon law so I'm stuck with it. Any suggestions? I'm frustrated.

The heads are the weak points on these motors. Make sure that you hear it run before you spend 750 on a motor plus labour to install it. 750 would be a decent price for a mid miled running motor. (my last rebuilt 350 was $1850 for a long block) Another option would be buying a "wrecked" truck with a good motor that runs and selling the rest to a scrap yard. Might be to expensive unless you have access to a tow truck or trailer.
