Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1998 ES 300: AC works fine in the mornings and during cooler weather.  However, during hot afternoons (95+ F) when I turn on the AC I get a very brief blast of air and then nothing.

You have a compressor outlet high pressure cutout switch, if the condenser can't get rid of the heat, it will switch off the compressor. High output pressure can also be caused by air in the system. This is one for the shop, they can properly evacuate the refrigerant and fix the problem. There are a myriad number of ways this problem can manifest - cooling fans not engaging, problem with condenser, intermittent compressor clutch failure, trapped air, etc.

Also may want to spray out condenser coil with garden hose and nozzle if clogged with dirt and bugs will restrict air across the coil fins.
