is superharging a good option on a 1.5 litre NA d-series honda engine?

It really depends on what your looking for. I would prefer supercharging for instant power and overall driveablility. Also supercharged engines usually have more life span that turbo charged. I am sure there will be a lot of people who respond to this who will bash a supercharger, turbocharging and supercharging are different and not one is better than the other; they each have their own applications.

id say save your money and buy a b18 to swap in then later turbo it lol

which d-series engine is it? the non vtec motor probably has a lower compression ratio and has less power to start with so supercharging might be a good idea but don't forget the bottom end won't be able to stand up to an insane amount of boost. the b18 swap would be more power for the money i think

Dustin i have to say that your comment about supercharged motors having a better life span than turbo motors is a absolute bull shit ! Ask any AUDI,SAAB,VOLVO owner if they ave any reduced life span of there motors ! More so if they are kept standard !! And the highest mileage motors on the planet are turbo charged !! E.G. All diesel,trucks,trains,boats,tractors,farming machines, mining machines ........... You get my point ! Turbos have less moving parts and have less parasitic power loss to the motor and a much longer service life than superchargers, thats why they use them !

i think he was talking about motors that didn't come stock with a turbo. and i dunno those self oiling contained superchargers seem to be pretty reliable. it really depends on the setup, the parts used and the amount of boost

Why would it make any difference if the motor was turbo/supercharged from factory or not ?

ive known people to turbocharge d series motors and they have experienced that they are more reliable than the b series motors, besides ive known people to get near 400 bhp out those motors and thats not bad from d series

Well many cars come with higher compression ratios, to keep it simple adding boost without proper tuning and a higher octane fuel will cause pre detonation, air and fuel can only be compressed so far before it spontaneously ignites. Diesel motors are a totally different ball game, they are designed to use compression ignition.

turbos are cheaper...try being practical...and they provide almost the same boost power...i have a ported d15 sohc and it's boosted...well, it runs pretty well despite the higher than usual fuel consumption...i think turbos are good for double overheads coz of faster compression in smaller ports, and supercharged are the ones with lesser compression but with larger ports which are great for sohc engines...that's just my opinion...do what you feel is best...
