How much fluid should be in the overflow tank when hot and cold?

Toyota Camry temperature gauge went up to hot.. took into be serviced and dealership
could not find anything wrong.  It would not overheat for them. two weeks later I have same
problem. it overheated but again NO smoke or leaking fluid. Could it be the thermostat?

There should be Hot and Cold markings on the side of the tank. It could be that your engine is not over heating - it could be a bad sending unit.

It's the actual sensor that tells your gauge how hot the engine is. These things rarely go bad, so when they do, it can be puzzling.
