Clicking before start - not the battery!

Asked by Daniel Dec 26, 2017 at 01:28 AM about the 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi
I appreciate there are lots of similiar posts, but after hours of searching, I
haven't been able to find the issue which I have.

I recently purchased a 2008 Jeep JK Unlimited Diesel Manual CRD (First
Jeep, I love it!).

There is a clicking noise when I put it into ignition.

I have:
checked the battery - full charge
taken the connections off, cleaned off corrosion with a steel brush, and
replaced them

The engine still starts fine every time!

The click persists after the engine starts.

The noise is coming from the rear of the car, not in the engine bay.

Can anyone give me any pointers? Is it safe to drive in the meantime?

Dan

Both - buy I late last night I figured it out... it was the electric fuel pump trying to transfer diesel from one tank to the other! Huge relief!
