the button tells the transmission not to go into overdrive and uses a lower gear to slow vehicle on declines

The +/o is for the cruise control. Push the button at the end of the lever and it will turn on and set the cruise. Use the little switch towards the + to increase the set speed. Use the little switch towards the o to cancel the cruise or apply the break to cancel.
