2002 Escape battery drain

Asked by billhenry Jun 06, 2015 at 11:45 PM about the 2002 Ford Escape XLS AWD

Question type: General

The current draw with everything off is 100 ma. Is this normal? With my insurance monitor in the diagnostic port, it increases to 150 ma. If I open one of the doors, the current goes to 0 ma. After I close the door, and after 10 seconds, the current returns to 100 ma.

Yes, I have connected my meter between the battery terminal and the cable end. In any case, it would seem that that the monitor should be going into "sleep" mode until some event happens (like a door opening). 100 ma seems excessive for sleep mode.

Got it. With the insurance monitor plugged in, the light is on. Removing fuse 27 turns the light off. I haven't tried the light with the monitor unplugged. I have removed all the dome lights. What is the threshold with the test light? Also, I am not understanding why the ammeter is a problem.
