Passenger side outside front door handle won't push in and open the door

Asked by Jerry Aug 30, 2015 at 07:05 PM about the 2006 Ford Escape XLT AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My son was opening the door while it was locked from the inside he did this
repeatedly and when I hit the unlock button he opened the door at the same
time and something happened.  Now u can open the door from the inside but
not outside.  The outside handle is stuck in the open position and won't go
Bach in even when you push it in.  I popped the panel off and looks like some
silverfish piece is messed up if I push up on it the handle will close but the
piece won't stay as soon as I let go the handle went back out what can I do to
fix this
