2002 Ford Explorer Ed Bauer front right noise and grab

Asked by Spiveysroost Dec 04, 2014 at 02:54 PM about the 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have 02 Ford Expl $X$ Ed Bauer edition. 168k miles, trans replaced at 148k miles.
Front right makes loud noise (clunk) and it 'grabs', as if piston in caliper is stuck.
Happens when turning right on tight turns, and when backing up. Calipers, rotors replaced
20k miles ago. HOWEVER, we also noticed the 4X4 light flickers when it occurs, and the
column gear shift lever moves when it occurs. Thoughts??

Tranny and transfer case not matching and/or adjusted corrected. When they did the front brakes did they get the locks installed correctly?

I am not sure if they installed the locks correctly. Not sure what that means. Can this be troubleshot via computer codes from transfer case, etc?

No its mechanical not electrical. I was talking about the locking rings that locks in the front wheels when 4x4 is engaged. It takes an experienced brake mechanic to get these back together right when you do a front brake or rotor replacement.
