2006 explorer knocking

Asked by firehouse61 Dec 11, 2019 at 03:39 PM about the 2006 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V8 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 explorer V8 4.6 with 205,00 miles on it. Has been a real good vehicle but lately when I am towing, when I go to back up it will star bogging down and knocking real loud. When I put it in park or turn it off and on it goes away.

If your trailer has surge brakes, they may not be disengaging as they are supposed to when you put the car in reverse. This causes you to try to accelerate and the car would feel like it is bogging down (and probably knock). Since the brakes don't engage when you are not in reverse, this may be the cause.
